Polish Zloty Weakens Due to Monetary Policy, Not the Current Account Deficit, Say ING Economists

Economists at ING said after Tuesday's National Bank of Poland data release that Poland's current account deficit remains small and stable, meaning it is not the driver of the zloty's recent weakness. They point instead to the monetary policy of Poland's Monetary Policy Council (RPP) as the main source of pressure on the currency. Higher prices of imported energy commodities have not materially widened the deficit.
