World leaders fly to Qatar to mourn Sheikh Hamad, dead at 74
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is credited with transforming the country into a global player, died on Thursday aged 74. World leaders are travelling to Doha to pay their condolences. Sheikh Hamad was the driving force behind Qatar's modernisation, including the founding of Al Jazeera and the country's successful bid to host the FIFA World Cup.
