Total solar eclipse, Perseid peak and bright Venus all coincide on Aug 12, 2026

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse, the Perseid meteor shower's peak, and Venus as the evening star will all occur on the same day. The roughly 180-mile-wide path of totality runs through eastern Greenland, western Iceland and northern Spain. Observers in the UK will see a 90–95% partial solar eclipse. Under dark skies for the Perseids, the Milky Way's bright core will stretch across the southern sky around midnight.
