Confession has no expiry date — only a new mortal sin blocks communion

In the Catholic Church, a valid confession does not expire after a set period of time — a penitent may receive communion until they commit another mortal sin. The Church does not impose a minimum frequency for confession, though it recommends going at least once a year. Receiving communion in a state of mortal sin without prior confession is forbidden by Catholic teaching.
