Archaeologists have discovered a rare carving in northern England, dating back approximately 1,600 years, depicting a "genius" — a Roman protective spirit believed to bring good fortune and prosperity to a person, household or place. Such depictions are exceptionally rare across Roman Britain. The find sheds new light on Roman religious practices in the British Isles.
