Human hibernation for Mars travel — scientists search for the answer

Scientists are investigating whether humans can be put into a hibernation-like state to make deep-space travel to Mars feasible. Long-duration spaceflight damages muscles, bones and eyes through microgravity exposure, while cosmic radiation poses a severe health risk. Hibernation — an evolutionary strategy at least 250 million years old — allows mammals to survive months without food or water, which could address many of these dangers.
