Piedmont Wildfires Destroy 900 Hectares of Forest – Recovery May Take 70 Years
A series of wildfires across several provinces in Italy's Piedmont region destroyed between 800 and 900 hectares of forest, with the number of trees lost estimated at up to 700,000. Regional authorities have begun preparations for the restoration of the burned areas. Full ecosystem recovery is expected to take up to 70 years. It is one of the largest ecological disasters Italy has experienced in recent years.
