EU bans gold imports from Sudan to cut off war financing

The European Union has banned gold imports from Sudan in an effort to cut off revenue funding the country's ongoing war. The measures also restrict exports of mercury and cyanide to Sudan, two chemicals widely used in artisanal gold mining.
