Niger Delta residents protest toxic gas leaks in Billé, Nigeria

Residents of Billé in Nigeria's Niger Delta have taken to the streets demanding government action over a severe environmental disaster. For several months, toxic and flammable gas has been leaking from the ground, contaminating water sources and destroying aquatic life that the community depends on for its livelihood. It is the latest in a long series of environmental disasters in the Niger Delta, largely blamed on Western oil companies.
