Polish scientists explain why shoes exploded and rocks burst during 2019 Giewont storm
A team led by Dr Sylweriusz Kosiński has completed an analysis of the deadly 2019 storm on Giewont, during which rocks literally exploded and fragments flew like projectiles, injuring everyone nearby. The researchers established the mechanism behind the rock and shoe explosions, as well as the limb paralysis suffered by victims. Half of all those injured were hurt by bursting rocks rather than by a direct lightning strike.
