Mortgage margins nearly flat in July as lenders hold back

July's variable-rate mortgage survey shows two banks raising margins and two cutting them, with most lenders making no changes at all. The slight overall decline in rates was driven mainly by falling WIBOR benchmark rates rather than any deliberate moves by the banks. The summer period appears to have brought a standstill in mortgage pricing competition.
