Engineers remotely rebooted spacecraft 140 million km away to study Dimorphos asteroid

Engineers successfully upgraded the software of a spacecraft 140 million kilometres from Earth and carried out two full reboots, each command subject to an eight-minute signal delay. The mission's goal is a close-up study of asteroid Dimorphos, which was deliberately struck by NASA's DART probe in 2022 as a planetary defence test. Scientists hope to finally answer how significantly the impact altered the asteroid's orbit and structure.
