US warns home router users as Russian FSB hackers mass-compromise devices
The US federal government is warning home and small-office router users that Russian FSB Centre 16 hackers are mass-compromising devices to conceal attacks on sensitive public and private organisations. Both Russia and China have been hijacking routers for years, building botnets that Google and others have repeatedly tried to dismantle, only for operators to replace them. Authorities are urging users to update router firmware, change default passwords and disable unnecessary remote-access services.
