US cyclosporiasis outbreak tops 2,800 cases of parasite causing watery diarrhea

More than 2,800 cases of cyclosporiasis have been reported across the United States, with Michigan and Ohio among the hardest-hit states. The parasitic infection causes watery diarrhoea, loss of appetite and weight loss. The outbreak follows the Trump administration's cuts to state and local health department funding and a reduced foodborne illness coordination programme one year ago.
