Scientists Propose "Noosignatures" to Detect Pre-Radio Alien Intelligence
Astrobiologist Julia DeMarines has proposed a new category of extraterrestrial life detection: "noosignatures" – signs of intelligence that exist between simple microbes and a civilisation capable of emitting radio waves. Earth took 3.5 billion years to go from the first microbe to radio technology, yet this intermediate stage is almost entirely unexplored. Her paper, available as a preprint on arXiv, is titled "Signs and Signatures of Intelligence."
