China targets 30% EV fleet share by 2030 as average car age stays under 7 years

China ended 2025 with nearly 44 million new-energy vehicles on the road, yet they account for only 12% of the total national fleet. Beijing aims to raise that share to 30% by 2030, requiring rapid growth in BEV and PHEV sales. A key advantage is China's young vehicle fleet — averaging under 7 years old compared to nearly 13 years in the US — meaning older combustion-engine cars are replaced faster.
