PlayStation ditches discs — UK retailers warn of £300m market loss

PlayStation announced it will stop producing physical game discs by 2028, drawing sharp criticism from the UK's Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA). ERA CEO Kim Bayley warned that the UK disc-based games market was worth over £300 million in 2025 and that 25% of under-25s still use discs for gaming. The ERA, representing retailers including Amazon and Sainsbury's, called on the industry to embrace every legitimate way consumers want to buy games.
