IMF warns Europe faces 'explosive' debt spiral without fiscal reform

The International Monetary Fund has warned that Europe's sovereign-debt dynamics risk going badly awry if governments fail to bring their public finances under control. The IMF used the word "explosive" to describe a scenario in which rising debt becomes self-reinforcing and uncontrollable. The Fund is calling on European governments to take consolidation measures before the situation reaches a critical point.
