Heat wave above 40°C threatens production of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

A third heat wave is set to hit Italy from Monday for around a week, with temperatures expected to exceed 40°C and reach 42–43°C in Sardinia. The African anticyclone is hitting Parmigiano Reggiano producers hard, as extreme heat reduces cows' milk output and sharply raises farming costs. Producers warn the iconic cheese could become increasingly scarce and expensive.
