EU bans all trade in gold from Sudan to cut war funding

EU foreign ministers on Monday adopted a complete ban on trade in Sudanese gold, aiming to cut off a key funding stream for the country's ongoing armed conflict. The war in Sudan has triggered what is described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis. The sanctions are also intended to pressure those fuelling the fighting.
