Germany approves record defence budget for 2027 — over 100 billion euros
The German federal government has approved a draft budget for 2027 that foresees defence spending well above 100 billion euros per year — the highest in the country's post-war history. The move is the latest step in the modernisation of the Bundeswehr following Chancellor Scholz's "Zeitenwende" policy shift after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Germany is aiming to meet and exceed the NATO target of 2% of GDP on defence.
