South Sudan: 2nd lowest GDP per capita globally, half the population lacks clean water
Fifteen years after gaining independence, South Sudan remains one of the world's poorest nations, recording the second lowest GDP per capita globally in 2025. Over half of its population lacks access to safe drinking water, and the state has no financial means to address these challenges on its own. The assessment comes from Joanna Lenartowicz of the Polish Humanitarian Action.
