Ireland's data centres now consume 23% of national electricity

Ireland's data centres now consume 23% of the country's total electricity, up 360% over ten years, according to the Central Statistics Office. Residential consumption stands at 28%, meaning server farms could soon overtake homes as the largest power users. Despite a 2021 moratorium on new data centre grid connections, consumption still grew 10% year-on-year between 2024 and 2025.
