Scientists Recreate Bee Silk in Lab, Plan to Fuse It With Ancient Fish Mucus
Researchers at the University of Utah have successfully replicated bee silk — produced by solitary bees — in the laboratory. The material rivals spider silk in strength but, unlike spider silk, can potentially be manufactured at scale. Scientists now plan to combine it with mucus from prehistoric fish to create a biological super-material for industrial use.
