Fans of classic Westerns — their number seems to be growing — have already begun tuning into Netflix's acclaimed new offering. The streamer had such confidence in the project that it renewed the show for a second season even before it was released. Since the show is based on a series of classic novels , there's plenty for writers to harness for future installments. For now, audiences can experience the sort of Western storytelling that's slowly finding its way back into popular culture, after gunslinger Westerns and neo-Westerns re-emerged in the last decade. A lot of this is down to the work of Taylor Sheridan , who spearheaded the Yellowstone franchise for Paramount+. The series isn't without its critics, but most seemed to agree that the two Yellowstone prequels — 1883 and 1923 — are above reproach.
