Fungi workshop in Tasmania's Tarkine rainforest reveals the third kingdom of life
Takayna/Tarkine in north-west Tasmania is one of Australia's last true wildernesses, home to 2,000-year-old Huon pines and freshwater crayfish nearly a metre long. A three-day fungi workshop led by mycologist Dr Alison Pouliot explores how fungi — predating both animals and trees — helped create conditions for complex life on Earth. The experience gives participants an unexpected appreciation for what scientists call the third kingdom of life.
