Volhynia excavator: Ukrainian digs may have been covering up massacre evidence
Archaeologist Olaf Popkiewicz, who took part in the first exhumations of Polish victims of the Volhynia massacre in 2011, says Ukrainian actions may have been aimed at covering up evidence of the crime rather than seeking historical accountability. He recalls finding mass graves containing the skeletons of children — a sight that broke him emotionally. Popkiewicz describes the extreme cruelty inflicted on women and children revealed by the excavations.
