Every summer, tourists at Poland's Baltic Sea resorts share photos of shockingly high bills from food trucks and street stalls. One key factor driving up prices is the so-called "market fee" (opłata targowa) that traders must pay local authorities — in popular seaside towns it can reach up to 953 złoty per day. Many consumers are unaware of this charge, which vendors pass on through higher prices.
