French heatwave forces three nuclear reactors offline, eight at reduced power
France's main energy provider EDF temporarily shut down three nuclear reactors on Sunday due to the heatwave, while eight others are running at reduced capacity. The shutdowns are an environmental protection measure: the reactors use river water for cooling, but discharging excessively warm water back into already-hot rivers is prohibited by law.
