99 drowning deaths in Germany in June — worst toll in over 20 years
Germany recorded 99 drowning deaths in June, its worst monthly toll in more than 20 years, as temperatures soared to 41.7°C in parts of the country. Young men made up the largest proportion of victims. The extreme heat across western Europe has also caused other disruptions, including the early closure of the Eiffel Tower.
