Narew National Park fights for water as ferry halted by falling river levels
The Narew National Park is marking its 30th anniversary amid a serious water crisis, with the ferry crossing on the Narew river closed after the vessel ran aground on sandbars due to record low water levels. Park director Grzegorz Piekarski says the future of the ecologically rich Narew valley — nicknamed Poland's Amazon — depends above all on water. Low river levels threaten the park's unique wetland ecosystems and biodiversity.
