Montepulciano's Wine Barrel Race: Training for a Medieval Tradition
Every August, the medieval Tuscan town of Montepulciano hosts the Bravìo delle Botti, in which neighbourhood teams race to roll 200-lb (90 kg) wine barrels uphill through the city's cobblestone streets. Correspondent Seth Doane spoke with locals who train intensely for the gruelling competition. Inter-neighbourhood rivalry is fierce and deeply rooted in local identity.
