18 Ancient Egyptian Tombs with 24 Gold 'Tongues' Found Near Mediterranean

Archaeologists have unearthed 18 ancient tombs in Marina el-Alamein, Egypt, about 100 km west of Alexandria, dating to the Ptolemaic (322–30 BC) or Roman (30 BC–AD 395) period. Among the finds were 24 gold "tongues" — thin sheets placed in the mouths of the deceased — along with other artefacts. Eleven tombs were carved deep underground, while seven were closer to the surface.
