Trump threatens Spain over low defence spending ahead of NATO summit

US President Donald Trump sharply criticised Spain's government ahead of the NATO summit, accusing Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of insufficient defence spending and disloyalty to allies. Trump announced that the United States no longer wishes to conduct trade with Spain. Madrid has thus become a direct target of American diplomatic and economic pressure.
