150 minutes of weekly exercise cuts colon cancer recurrence risk
The CHALLENGE 2025 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, is the first large randomised controlled trial showing that a structured exercise programme can reduce the risk of colon cancer recurrence after treatment. Physical activity helps the body fight cancer at a biological level, beyond merely improving quality of life. Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week for cancer patients. The field of oncology-focused exercise medicine is growing, but access to such programmes remains limited.
