France and UK boost border staffing ahead of EES summer travel chaos

France and the UK have agreed to increase staffing at Channel border crossings ahead of warnings of severe disruption caused by the EU's new Entry-Exit System (EES), which introduces fingerprinting and facial recognition checks. The summer holiday peak begins next weekend, and MPs warned of "utter chaos and miles of tailbacks" if the system is not fixed or checks suspended. Both governments are racing to prevent gridlock at cross-Channel crossings.
