Former Qatari emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani dies aged 74

Former Qatari emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled the country from 1995 to 2013, has died at the age of 74. He was credited with building modern Qatar and elevating its international standing, including founding Al Jazeera and winning the 2022 World Cup hosting bid. Qatar has declared four days of national mourning.
