Bulgaria hit with excessive deficit procedure a year after adopting the euro

The European Union has launched an excessive deficit procedure against Bulgaria in the same year the country adopted the euro. The EU also issued recommendations aimed at stabilising Bulgarian public finances by 2029. The move is a serious warning for Sofia, which must now carry out fiscal consolidation.
