China floods free hundreds of farmed snakes, terrorising villages in Guangxi
Heavy rainfall in China's Guangxi Zhuang region caused two retention reservoir embankments to break, flooding the area around Hengzhou city and forcing residents to evacuate. The floodwaters inundated nearby reptile farms, releasing hundreds of disoriented snakes that were filmed swimming through village streets. Chinese naturalists note that most of the escaped animals are commercially farmed, non-aggressive species rather than dangerous ones.
