Taliban tightens full control over Herat, erasing its cosmopolitan character

Herat, once Afghanistan's most cosmopolitan city with relatively loose social norms even under early Taliban rule, is now under the full grip of the Taliban's supreme leader. A deliberate campaign has systematically dismantled the liberal atmosphere that once set the city apart from the rest of the country. Residents are now forced to conform to the strict rules imposed by the regime.
