Anders in 1945: a 100,000-strong corps and hopes of war with the USSR

In 1945, General Władysław Anders commanded a 100,000-strong Polish corps and deliberately delayed its demobilisation, hoping for a conflict between the Western Allies and the Soviet Union. Polish forces were expected to play a key role if the Soviets advanced through the Adriatic. Those hopes proved illusory, and communist authorities stripped Anders of his Polish citizenship just one year after the war ended.
