Poland's Crooked Forest: the mystery of its curved pine trees explained

The Crooked Forest near Gryfino in north-west Poland contains around 400 pine trees whose trunks bend sharply at ground level in a J-shape. Planted around 1930, the trees are most likely the result of deliberate human manipulation — possibly for furniture or shipbuilding timber — though no theory has been conclusively proven.
