Alvarez scores in extra time – Argentina beat Switzerland 3:1, reach semis

Argentina advanced to the 2026 World Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 extra-time win over Switzerland in Kansas City. After a 1-1 draw at 90 minutes, and with Switzerland down to ten men from the 72nd minute (Embolo red card), Julian Alvarez scored a brilliant finish in the 112th minute to make it 2-1. Lautaro Martinez added a third to seal it. The defending champions will face England in the semis.
