The year 2027 will see one of the most decorated actor-directors of his generation, Mel Gibson , return to the kind of filmmaking that he’s best known for. His long-awaited follow-up to The Passion of the Christ , a two-part sequel titled The Resurrection of the Christ , will debut its first installment in May. Gibson emerged as a filmmaker with the historical epic Braveheart , and went on to direct epics such as Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ . However, personal issues continued to plague his life, and they had an impact on his career in the 2010s. After effectively being canceled, Gibson made a controversial comeback to mainstream moviemaking a decade ago with a World War II movie that was widely celebrated by the industry.
