AI companies push to weaken Australia's copyright laws – artists fight back

AI companies are lobbying to weaken Australia's copyright laws to allow them to use protected works for training their models. Author Anna Funder called it a "crime", saying tech giants have "hoovered up" her literary works for profit. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to deliver a landmark AI speech, while the Labor Party is internally split between attracting data-centre investment and protecting creators' rights.
