Archaeologists find remains of church that hosted First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD
Archaeologists excavating Iznik — ancient Nicaea in northwestern Turkey — have uncovered the remains of a small church believed to be the site of the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. Fragments of walls, flooring and a column base were found buried beneath a later basilica on the shores of Lake İznik.
