Spyro: A Realm Beyond — flying demands active input, not autopilot

In Spyro: A Realm Beyond, developed by Toys for Bob, players can fly freely as the purple dragon, but the mechanic is intentionally active rather than passive. Associate creative director Louis Studdert told the Kinda Funny Games podcast that flying requires constant button inputs, including diving for speed and using flame breath. The developers wanted the aerial sections to feel like traditional platforming, demanding spatial evaluation and decision-making.
