Ukrainian IPN chief acknowledges 1943 Volhynia massacre as a tragedy

Oleksandr Alfiorov, head of Ukraine's Institute of National Remembrance, acknowledged that tragic events took place in Volhynia in 1943 and appealed for the historical crime not to overshadow future Polish-Ukrainian cooperation. He stressed that the past "should not become a weapon." Memorial masses are to be held Sunday in all parishes of the Volhynian diocese.
