UNESCO approves Białowieża Forest management plan after 12 years — locals object

After 12 years of work and numerous consultations, the Polish government has adopted a UNESCO management plan for Białowieża Forest. The plan minimises the area where logging is permitted, bans hunting and calls for the removal of unnecessary drainage ditches. Local authorities criticise the document for ignoring community demands and asking overly vague questions in public consultations.
