IMF: Dollar stablecoins improve FX access but may amplify currency runs

An IMF working paper finds that dollar-denominated stablecoins can improve access to foreign currency, particularly in countries with weak financial systems. However, the paper also warns that during severe exchange-rate stress they may help coordinate rapid exits from local currencies, potentially amplifying currency crises.
